Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna
is one of the oldest musical institutions in Europe. Founded in 1666 by the nobleman Vincenzo Maria Carrati and housed in the family palace in today's Via Guerrazzi 13, the Academy remains an important point of reference for the cultural life of the city and beyond.
Mozart and his father visited Bologna twice. After a short time, the two became well known among the artists and scientists of Bologna, and joint musical and other activities developed. W.A. Mozart passes the difficult examination for the famous "Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna" and is accepted as the new and youngest member. Actually, this honour is reserved for those over 20 years of age, and Wolfgang is only 14 at the time, but thanks to Padre Martini, an exception is made. He managed to complete the exam, which had been planned for several hours, in 15 minutes. The authentic place where these results were obtained, with its splendid interiors, can still be visited today, including the library where Father Leopold was locked up during his son's examination.
