Ala was originally a small trading town and post station on the road from Rovereto to Verona, hometown to the art patrons Giovanni and Pietro Pizzini.

On 17th August 1771, W.A. Mozart and his father enjoyed the charm of Palazzo Pizzini for the first time. For the remainders of the day, the Mozart's played music for the two brothers. The day after, they left for the south, but from that time onwards, they visited the brothers each time they passed through Ala.
