Award for the Mozartwoche at the Austrian Music Theater Prize: Special prize for “Best Festival”
The Mozartwoche has been awarded the special prize for “Best Festival” at this year’s Austrian Music Theater Prize. Director Rolando Villazón was delighted to accept the award at a gala matinee at the Volksoper Wien on September 1st. The jury justified the prize as follows: The Mozartwoche Salzburg, has established itself as one of the world’s most important music festivals since its foundation in 1956. Every year, the program is dedicated to the greatest composers in history and presents classical music in a new, contemporary guise.
Under the successful directorship of star tenor Rolando Villazón, the high-calibre program of opera, symphony concerts and chamber music based around the festival’s namesake is continuously developed and opens up to new target groups with unique crossover formats - in line with the premise: Mozart lives!
