Frankfurt

Mozart’s stays: ca. 10.8. - 31.8.1763 / 28.9. - 16.10.1790

W. A. Mozart stayed twice in Frankfurt. The first time he travelled with his family from Mainz during the great Western Europe trip (1763-66) to Frankfurt. The two children gave a total of five concerts, one of which also visited Wolfgang von Goethe. Then they returned to Mainz and continued the journey towards Paris.

The second journey at the end of life led Mozart on the occasion of the coronation of Leopold II to Frankfurt and was characterized by bitterness. He wrote to Konstanze, "If people could look into my heart, I would be ashamed, everything is cold, icy cold." The performance of the coronation concert KV. 537 in D major was artistically a success, financially not.

The city of Frankfurt is represented in the association by the “Frankfurter Bürgerstiftung im Holzhausenschlösschen”. The “Frankfurter Bürgerstiftung” was established on 15 February 1989. In addition to classical chamber concerts with renowned soloists and ensembles, the foundation also organizes lectures, readings, theater performances and numerous special projects. The annual program includes about 300 cultural events. An important pillar of the Foundation's program are also the regular children's events.
