Leopold Mozart House Augsburg
A museum to listen, feel and participate in!
In the museum in Leopold Mozart's birthplace on Frauentorstrasse in Augsburg, visitors of all ages can actively get to know Mozart's father and his world. The permanent exhibition invites visitors to experience things directly and with all their senses: Eleven themed rooms include a walk-in coach, a baroque theatre and a room where music can be experienced.
Leopold Mozart is portrayed from a variety of angles: as the father of child prodigies, as a true European who planned years of travel throughout Europe for himself and his family, as a man of the world who crossed national and class boundaries with his family and familiarised himself and his children with the world of his time. But he was also a creative composer, whether of sacred music or secular occasional compositions, Leopold always met the taste of the times.
In addition to his son Wolfgang, Leopold Mozart bequeathed another world-class work to music history: his "Versuch einer grΓΌndlichen Violinschule" (Attempt at a thorough violin school) provides a fascinating insight into the musical practice of the 18th century. The first edition of 1756 is the great treasure of the Leopold Mozart House.
