Mozart’s stays:: 3. (?) bis 10. (?) 8. 1763 / 31.8. bis Mitte September 1763 / 16. – 21.10.1790

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart himself visited two times Mainz travelling through Europe.
His first visit was in August/September 1763 during the extensive "Great Wesern" trip of 1763 -66 to Paris. The Mozart family - Mozart at the age of 7 years - lodged in the Baroque House "König von England" near the market. His father Leopold gave a public concert at "Roman King" Inn and afterwards travelled for some concerts to Frankfurt. There the 14 years old Goethe heard Mozart. Returned to Mainz Wolfgang and his sister Nannerl gave a further concert in Mainz, before travelling to Koblenz.
Mozart stopped for the second time in Mainz returning from Frankfurt to Vienna and lodged at "Arnsberger Hof". Fascinated by the organ builders Stumm brothers Mozart probably played on the still existing Stumm Organ at St. Augustine Church. He also gave a concert at the Elector's Palace in the Academy Room before travelling to Mannheim.

Villa Musica Rheinland-Pfalz

The Mainz-based Villa Musica Rheinland-Pfalz Foundation is a member of the European Mozart Ways Association. The Villa Musica is dedicated to promoting young musicians and organizing concerts, especially in the field of chamber music.

The Villa Musica courses, with their special principle, are at the center of the activities: highly talented young musicians, who are selected through an audition, make music together with the instructors. Concert tours are integrated into one to two-week courses, in which the results of the joint work are presented. In addition to its activities in the area of promoting young musicians, which account for about 50% of the approximately 170 concerts held each year, the foundation is also a concert organizer in the classical sense. It has a summer series "Music in Castles and Palaces", three chamber music series in Mainz, Engers Palace (Neuwied) and Villa Ludwigshöhe (Edenkoben), and also works with about 60 local organizers throughout Rhineland-Palatinate to organize a comprehensive cultural program.
