MATER CELEBRER. MOZART
Anna Maria Mozart on the occasion of her 300th birthday
On the occasion of the 300th anniversary of her birth, Anna Maria Mozart, née Pertl (1720-1778) - mother of the siblings Maria Anna and Wolfgang Amadé Mozart - is the focus of an anthology. She is often described as uneducated, socially unacceptable and not even musical. He inherited his talent from his father, his penchant for foul language from his mother.
The symposium volume, published by Hollitzer-Verlag in Vienna and edited by Anja Morgenstern and Eva Neumayr, includes contributions on
Her biography, her education, her portrayal in pictures and her reception by Mozart biographers. The important social role of musicians' mothers in the 18th century is also discussed. On the basis of selected biographies that illustrate the cultural activities of women in musical families, new aspects of Anna Maria Mozart's life and work are revealed. The results presented here show that this woman had a greater influence on the development of her famous son Wolfgang Amadé than previously thought.
The book is the result of a successful collaboration between the International Mozarteum Foundation, the Archives of the Archdiocese of Salzburg and the Maria-Anna-Mozart Society.
