Mozart's stay: probably October 1790
Johann Anton Andre (1775 - 1842) was a passionate musician and an outstanding violinist. After his father's death, he took over the music printing house and music shop founded in 1774 and signed a contract with Constanze Mozart to purchase the composer's musical estate. At the same time, he brought Alois Senefelder from Munich to Offenbach and had him install the first lithographic presses in his publishing house. The Offenbach archive of the Andre company, which still exists today, contains extremely valuable lithographic first editions of Mozart's works from the original manuscripts and is a unique source for musical research. The original manuscripts themselves, however, were abandoned or passed on by the heirs after 1854 and are now scattered.
