Mozart cities - Members of the European Mozart's Ways report on Mozart's stays
Padova
Mozart's stays: 10 (?).2.1771 / 12.-14.3.1771
W.A. Mozart and his father visit Padova twice during their first trip to Italy. The first visit is en route to Venice. During the second visit in mid-March 1771, the Mozarts meet the music theorist Padre Francesco Antonio Valotti in St Anthony's Monastery and Giovanni Ferrandini, for whom Wolfgang plays the harpsichord. Mozart also plays the organ in San Giustina. Don Giuseppe d'Aragona de Ximenez, who organises musical academies in his palace, commissions Wolfgang to compose the oratorio "Betulia Liberata" K. 118. Mozart composed the oratorio in Salzburg in 1771, but there is no evidence of a performance in Padova.
