Mozart Cities - Members of the European Mozart Ways report on Mozart's stays

Bologna

Mozart's stays: 24 - 29.3.1770 / 20.7 - around 13.10.1770

Mozart and his father visited Bologna on two occasions. During their first and second trips to Italy, they were warmly welcomed by the Count and his wife at the Villa Pallavicini. They stayed for three months and were soon accepted by the artists and scientists of Bologna. Several musical activities developed. W.A. Mozart passed the difficult examination of the prestigious Accademia Filarmonica and was accepted as a new member. Normally you had to be at least 20 years old and the exam took several hours. However, thanks to Padre Martini, the Academy made an exception for Wolfgang, who was only 14 years old. The authentic sites of this procedure still exist, including the library where Mozart's father Leopold waited for his son to be examined.
