Vienna was the seat of the Court of the Habsburg Monarchy. This made it a prime destination for Mozart's travels and later his permanent residence. He was very well received by the Viennese, but he never found a permanent job. So Mozart continued to travel around Europe. One day in 1780, at the age of 24, he decided to stay in Vienna, leaving his lonely father at home: "Often, when I approach our house, I feel a certain melancholy and imagine that I must hear you playing the violin".
W.A. Mozart married Constanze Weber in St Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna. They had and raised children, and when Mozart died in December 1791, he was bidden farewell in the same church. Ultimately, Vienna played host to Mozart and his family for over 10 years. It was during these years in Vienna that he composed and performed many of his greatest masterpieces. As the Mozarts' residence changed frequently (depending on their income), we can find many authentic Mozart sites all over Vienna.
