The Mozart family - Mozart museums along the European Mozart Ways

The former "Tanzmeisterhaus", which is now run by the Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg as the Mozart residence, offered the Mozart family a spacious ambience from 1773 with an eight-room apartment on the first floor.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart lived in the house on Makartplatz until he moved to Vienna in 1781. His mother died in Paris in 1778 and his sister Nannerl married in St. Gilgen in 1784. His father remained in the house alone - from 1785 with his grandson Leopold Alois Pantaleon, who was entrusted to his care.

The newly designed tour of the Mozart residence invites visitors to take a closer look at the Mozart family: testimonies from the lives of father Leopold, mother Anna Maria and sister Maria Anna ("Nannerl") are on display. In addition to the permanent exhibition, special exhibitions are regularly held on the premises.

Since 2023, the so-called Magic Flute House, where Wolfgang is said to have composed parts of his opera "The Magic Flute", has been located in the inner courtyard of the building.
