Mozart Week 2023: Event overview
The Mozart Week from 26 January to 5 February 2023 offers a varied programme around the motto "Mozart, the child prodigy, and Mozart, the great master". This year we will once again welcome some of the world's best Mozart interpreters, such as Sir András Schiff, Magdalena Kožená, Radek Baborák, Elena Bashkirova, Renaud Capuçon, Ivor Bolton, Lisette Oropesa and others, to our festival in Salzburg. The focus of the Mozart Week will be on both early and late compositions by the composer, including his last work, the Requiem, which will be performed both by Jordi Savall with his original sound ensemble Le Concert des Nations and by the Vienna Philharmonic under the baton of Thomas Guggeis. The Vienna Philharmonic, faithful companions of the Mozart Week since 1956, can be admired in two further concerts, on 28 January with the two world stars Martha Argerich and Maria João Pires at the piano under the baton of Robin Ticciati and on 1 February with the former artistic director of the Mozart Week Marc Minkowski.
The highlight of the programme will probably be the semi-staged performance of the opera "Don Giovanni" at the Felsenreitschule, conducted by Sir András Schiff and staged by the artistic director of the Mozartwoche, Rolando Villazón.
