Mozarthaus Vienna 

Special exhibition "Cherubino alla vittoria!" from 26.01.2023 

Mozarthaus Vienna opens its new special exhibition "Cherubino alla vittoria!" on 26 January 2023. - Mozart's Figaro aria in the context of military music.  The exhibition takes place in cooperation with the Vienna Library in the City Hall and will be on display until mid-January 2024. 

In the so-called military aria at the end of the first act of the opera Le Nozze di Figaro, the title character drastically demonstrates the horrors of life as a soldier to the page Cherubino, who has just been announced  to officer.  

Recently, a contemporary Austrian military march was found that bears a striking thematic resemblance to the concluding march in the aforementioned Figaro aria. Did Mozart know this military march, and did he consciously use it in his opera? If so, he made it "suitable for the stage" with a few ingenious tricks and thus gave the scene an even greater sense of reality.
