3720 Days

Mozart spent 1/3 of his life, that is 3,720 days, 10 years, two months and eight days travelling. W.A. Mozart only lived to be 35 years old.

Purpose of travelling?

Education, inspiration and the exchange with other scholars and musicians significantly shaped his personality and his works.

Painful & difficult

In those days & today

From Salzburg to Munich the journey took two days by coach, at a speed between 5.5 and 7.5 km per hour. Today the Intercity covers the distance in about 90 minutes at an average of 108 km / h.

Lodging

Travel accommodations were often inadequate: damp rooms and poor hygiene were the daily standards.

Tracks and impressions

Mozart saw over 200 places – cities, towns, estates, palaces and other sites – during visits that significantly contributed to his individual and compositional development.
