The life and work of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart are closely connected with Munich. Two of his magnificent works were written in the residential city of Munich: On 13 January 1775 the premiere of "La finta giardinera" took place, and on 29 January 1781 the opera "Idomeneo" was launched in the Cuvilliéstheater.

Even during his first trip to Munich as a six-year-old, he and his sister Nannerl played for Elector Maximilian Joseph III. The second visit followed a year later, in June 1763, as part of the three-year trip to Western Europe that took the family as far as Paris and London. On the way back from this triumphant journey, they again stopped in Munich, where Mozart gave concerts at the Electoral Court.

The focus of the next trip to Munich (1774 - 1775) was the premiere of the opera "La finta giardiniera" at the Salvatortheater. In 1777, Munich was again a destination for Wolfgang and his mother on their way to Paris and they stayed in the city on the Isar for 14 days. At this time Wolfgang unfortunately tried in vain to find a job.

In 1781, the opera Idomeneo, which Mozart had composed in Munich on behalf of Elector Karl Theodor, was premiered in the enchanting rococo theatre in the Munich Residenz, the Cuvilliés Theatre. He would have liked to stay in Munich, but unfortunately there was again no "vacatur" for him.

In 1790 Mozart came to Munich for the last time on his journey to the coronation of Leopold II in Frankfurt. He gave a concert in the Residenz before the enthusiastic King of Naples.

Munich was Mozart's city, but it became more of a "Mozart city" at the end of the 19th century, when the Mozart renaissance began under Hermann Levi and Felix Mottl, and Richard Strauss and Ernst von Possart integrated him firmly into the opera repertoire and the Munich Opera Festival as the "house god".

To this day, his works are performed at the Bavarian State Opera, the Gärtnerplatz Theatre and the Cuvilllés Theatre, as well as by Munich's renowned orchestras.

Munich is represented in the association by München Tourismus as a marketing partner.
