New edition of the Köchelverzeichnis
Now also available digitally.

The Köchel catalogue, first published by Breitkopf & Härtel in 1862, was a milestone in music history. The Köchel catalogue was fundamentally revised in 1905, 1937 and 1964, demonstrating the enormous progress, achieved by generations of Mozart scholars.

Now the new 2024 edition results are available - in printed form, once again published by Breitkopf & Härtel, and additionally as a digital version. The great composer’s rich, incomparable œuvre is now newly documented and interpreted on almost 1,400 pages. The new Köchel catalogue in a nutshell:

  • is based on the latest results of international Mozart research

  • goes back to Köchel’s original numbering from 1862

  • contains new entries for 95 works in the main section from K. 627 onwards, mainly fragments and lost compositions by Mozart that were missing or only mentioned in passing in the previous editions

  • provides an overview of Mozart’s arrangements of other works, from cadenzas to his own and other works as well as studies, teaching material and all other musical notes in newly structured appendices

  • provides information on incorrect attributions

  • is indexed by a thematic overview, numerous indices and an extensive bibliography

  • has a volume of 1,392 pages and weighs just under three kilograms

The Köchel catalogue / KV Online will be the gateway to all digital Mozart resources of the International Mozarteum Foundation, which will be created and maintained there with the support of the Packard Humanities Institute.
