Rovereto

Mozart's stays: 24 - 27.12.1769 / About 20.3.1771 / 17.8.1771 / 29 - 30.10.1772

Four trips to Italy took father and son Mozart to Rovereto. The first stay in Rovereto goes down in Mozart's literature as the place of his first Italian concert: the boy played on the occasion of a musical performance in the Todeschi palace, as a guest of Baron Giovanni Battista, on 25 December 1769; the following day he played at the organ of the cathedral (church of S. Marco), the people of the whole town gathered to hear him. Over the course of a few days, the musicians enjoyed the hospitality of the city's most notable aristocrats, on the occasion of musical performances or festive dinners. Here they got to know various personalities whom they later met again on their travels in Italy as well as in Austria and Salzburg, and they also met old acquaintances.

On their return journey from their first trip to Italy, Rovereto was a stopover on the way to Innsbruck via Brixen. On 17 August 1771 (their third stay), the Mozarts spent about one and a half hours in Rovereto before travelling on to Ala. They visited the Baron Gian Giulio Pizzini and the lawyer and musical dilettante Antonio Giacomo Bridi. The Mozarts arrived in Rovereto for the last time at the end of October 1772 via Bolzano and Trento, where they stayed overnight.
