Salzburg was W.A. Mozart's birthplace and hometown for two thirds of his life. He was born here in the Getreidegasse on 27 January 1756. He wrote his first composition here at the age of 6 and his first opera "Apollo et Hyacinthus" at the age of 11. Incidentally, he also found his first regular employment with the Salzburg archbishops. About half of his numerous works were written here.

Numerous institutions from tourism, museums and scientific institutions are represented in the association as members:

Land Salzburg

The Land Salzburg is the initiator of the European Mozart Ways, which were founded in the run-up to the great Mozart anniversary in 2006. The province of Salzburg is not only famous for its impressive landscape, but also for the diverse culture that the city and province have to offer. In addition to the city of Salzburg, St. Gilgen and Lofer are other Mozart locations.

DomQuartier Salzburg

The DomQuartier Salzburg has original venues for Mozart's works. When the young Mozart was in Salzburg, the flat in the Getreidegasse as well as the Residence and the Cathedral were his main places of residence. The Residence and the Cathedral were his immediate places of work - here he made music, for these rooms he composed. Mozart's story can be told at the original sites of musical activity on a "Mozart Way" through the DomQuartier.

The residence and cathedral area, supplemented by the Benedictine monastery of St. Peter, can be experienced as a continuous tour for the first time in 200 years. Other highlights include magnificent views of Salzburg's old town from the cathedral arch terrace and of Salzburg Cathedral from the organ loft.

TSG Tourismus Salzburg GmbH

The company was founded in 1996. The sole shareholder of TSG Tourismus Salzburg GmbH is the municipality of Salzburg. The purpose of the company is "tourism marketing, congress operation, operation of the spa and health resort".

Today, the remit of TSG Tourismus Salzburg GmbH includes accommodation, events and congresses around the four main tourist themes of the city of Salzburg: Mozart, Salzburg Festival, World Cultural Heritage and Sound of Music.

Mozarteum Foundation

The Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg (SMS) is a private non-profit organisation that preserves Mozart's legacy. It was founded in 1880 by citizens of the city of Salzburg and has its roots in the "Dom-Musik-Verein und Mozarteum" of 1841.

Every year around Mozart's birthday on 27 January, the Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg sets an artistic accent in European concert life that is hard to beat throughout the calendar year: the Mozart Week. Internationally leading orchestras, ensembles, conductors, singers and soloists have been performing at the Mozart Week for over 50 years. To complement the Mozart Week, the ISM organises various concert cycles between the end of September and June.

The SMS is the owner and operator of Salzburg's two original Mozart sites: in the heart of Salzburg, in Getreidegasse, stands "Mozart's Birthplace" - the house that Leopold Mozart moved into with his wife Anna Maria Walburga in 1747 and lived in for 26 years. Nannerl and Wolfgang were born here. In 1773, the Mozart family escaped the medieval confines of Getreidegasse by moving into what is now known as the "Mozart Residence" on Hannibalplatz on the right bank of the Salzach. The spacious eight-room flat offered enough room for social gatherings with friendly families. The young Mozart lived here as a family until 1780.

The third pillar of the SMS is the scientific department, the "Mozart Institute". This consists of the sub-sections Bibliotheca Mozartiana with its autograph collection, Mozart sound and film collection, New Mozart Edition and Digital Mozart Edition.

Mozarteum University

The history of the "Mozarteum" dates back to 1841 - to a suggestion by Constanze Mozart to cultivate the music of her late husband Wolfgang Amadé Mozart more intensively in Salzburg. Outstanding personalities such as Bernhard Paumgartner, Clemens Krauss, Paul Hindemith, Carl Orff, Sándor Végh and Nikolaus Harnoncourt have left their mark on the Mozarteum University.

In over 40 artistic and pedagogical fields of study in the areas of music, performing and visual arts, approximately 1,600 young artists from all over the world receive a comprehensive education in numerous instrumental subjects, composition, conducting, singing, music theatre, acting, directing, stage design, music and dance pedagogy, art and work pedagogy, as well as music pedagogy and musicology.

500 teachers, many of them internationally renowned artists and educators, pass on their knowledge and art and fill the university with lively debate. In addition to its traditional role as an excellent educational institution, the Mozarteum University has positioned itself as a cultural institution and contributes to Salzburg's cultural life with numerous events organised by students and teachers.
