Mozart's “Il re pastore” - on the day of the premiere 250 years ago at the premiere venue in the Rittersaal! Concert performance

Exactly 250 years ago to the day, on April 23, 1775, Wolfgang Amadé Mozart conducted the concert premiere of his two-act serenata Il re pastore at the Fürsterzbischöfliches Residenztheater in Salzburg. The serenata Il re pastore (The King as Shepherd) was composed in just a few weeks and, with its colorful orchestration and emotional depth, more than hints at Mozart's later mastery as an opera composer. It was commissioned by Prince Archbishop Hieronymus Count Colloredo from the then 19-year-old Mozart.

A top-class cast led by Rolando Villazón and the Camerata Salzburg under Giovanni Guzzo will celebrate this important anniversary with music at the original venue at the Rittersaal of the Salzburg Residenz.

The event is a cooperation with the Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg.
