230th anniversary of Mozart's death
December 5, 2021
The European Mozart Ways went on a search for traces in Vienna and summarized the most important facts about W.A. Mozart's death in a video.
The film was shot at Mozarthaus Vienna, Mozart's death house in Rauhensteingasse, the Crucifix Chapel at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna, St. Michael's Church and St. Marx Cemetery.
W.A. Mozart died at 0:55 on December 5, 1791 after a short violent 15-day illness. The body was laid out in the house where he died. On December 6 the consecration took place in the crucifix chapel followed by the transfer to the St. Marx cemetery. There Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was buried in a so-called shaft grave with up to five other dead. Today, a grave monument commemorates the great European composer.
On December 10, those parts of his last work, namely the Requiem K. 626, were heard in a church service in the Michaelerkirche. The service was organized by Emanuel Schickaneder, a friend and lodge brother of Wolfgang.
